Job Description
Apple is hiring a Junior Application Support & Site Reliability Engineer in Bengaluru, suitable for candidates with 1–2 years of experience in Application Production Support, DevOps, Systems Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering. This role is part of Apple's Sales Engineering, IS&T organization and focuses on keeping mission-critical applications and services reliable, available, and performant. The position combines expertise in Linux, Java, Python, databases, observability, incident management, automation, CI/CD, and SRE practices, with exposure to GenAI, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, and Infrastructure as Code.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Monitor the health, performance, and capacity of mission-critical applications and services.
- Support multi-region application and service operations.
- Act as a first-line responder to production alerts, outages, and system anomalies.
- Participate in on-call rotations and rapid-response workflows.
- Investigate application, system, network, and performance issues through to resolution.
- Perform database troubleshooting, query analysis, data verification, and performance tuning.
- Partner with development, QA, database, and infrastructure teams for root-cause analysis.
- Identify underlying causes and support permanent remediation of recurring problems.
- Build and refine dashboards, log aggregation, and alerting rules.
- Use observability tools such as Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, and Dynatrace.
- Track service reliability metrics such as SLIs and SLOs.
- Develop Python and Bash scripts to automate repetitive operational tasks.
- Automate health checks and routine maintenance activities.
- Support production deployments and CI/CD pipeline runs.
- Support build validation using Maven and Gradle.
- Perform canary and smoke testing where required.
- Execute production change requests according to change management standards.
- Use modern engineering practices and GenAI-assisted workflows to improve operational efficiency.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience: 1–2 years of combined work experience in Application Production Support, DevOps, Systems Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Linux/Unix (Filesystems, process management, networking, permissions, systemd)
- System Engineering (Servers, services, resource management)
- Java and Python (Programming and debugging experience)
- Build Tools (Familiarity with Maven and Gradle)
- Databases (Troubleshooting and querying with PostgreSQL, Oracle DB, MySQL)
- Observability (Exposure to Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, or Dynatrace)
- Incident Management (Experience with incident triage and production issue handling)
- CI/CD (Basic knowledge of Jenkins, GitHub Actions, continuous deployment concepts)
- GenAI (Exposure to AI models and AI-assisted development or support workflows)
Competencies:
- AI-Assisted Operations (Using GenAI tools for log analysis, script generation, issue investigation - preferred)
- Containers (Docker and foundational Kubernetes knowledge - preferred)
- Cloud (Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Azure - preferred)
- Infrastructure as Code (Basic knowledge of Ansible or Terraform - preferred)
- Solid understanding of Linux/Unix systems, programming and debugging, relational databases, monitoring and incident management.
