Job Description
Caterpillar is currently scheduled to hire qualified professionals for the position of Automation Engineer. Candidates holding a B.E / B.Tech / B.Sc degree with at least 1 year of experience in software or platform engineering are highly encouraged to apply. Roles and Responsibilities
- Design & Development: Assisting in the comprehensive design, development, and delivery of enterprise Java-based applications and microservices.
- Code Quality: Writing clean, maintainable, secure, and highly efficient code aligned with internal engineering standards; Participating actively in peer code reviews and incorporating feedback to systematically elevate code quality.
- Collaboration: Collaborating closely with senior developers, architects, and product team members to understand requirements and implement scalable solutions.
- System Modernization: Supporting the functional analysis and modernization enhancements of existing or legacy software systems.
- DevOps Support: Working alongside DevOps teams to streamline build, continuous integration, and cloud deployment processes.
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting runtime issues, debugging application bottlenecks, and supporting production fixes.
- Performance Improvement: Contributing to structural improvements focused on application performance, reliability, and ease of maintainability.
- Automation: Learning, exploring, and applying modern automation techniques to boost ongoing development efficiency.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience: Minimum of 1+ years of professional experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or working with distributed systems.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Java/J2EE
- Core OOP concepts
- Basic software design patterns
- Spring framework (Spring Boot highly preferred)
- Building REST APIs
- Database connectivity layers (JPA, Hibernate, JDBC)
- Reliable SQL skills
- Unit testing frameworks (JUnit)
- Version control (Git, basic branching)
- Build automation tools (Maven or Gradle)
Competencies:
- Strong debugging and logical problem-solving skills
- Active eagerness to master new technologies
- Prior exposure to Docker, containerization technologies, or cloud computing platforms (plus)
