Job Description

CGI is looking for Mainframes Trained Grads for a Mainframe Apprentice role. Candidates with knowledge of COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS and z/OS concepts can apply for this opportunity. The role is designed for freshers who want to begin their careers in mainframe application development, testing and production support. Selected candidates will work under experienced team members while gaining practical exposure to mainframe applications, coding, testing, job execution and troubleshooting.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support mainframe application development and maintenance activities under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Create, modify and execute basic JCL jobs and analyse job outputs.
  • Perform basic COBOL coding, testing and debugging under supervision.
  • Write and execute basic DB2 SQL queries and support data-related activities.
  • Analyse basic compile errors, JCL errors, job monitoring issues and abends with guidance.
  • Follow established coding, testing, documentation and change-management processes.
  • Learn and adapt to the organization's mainframe applications, tools and business processes.
  • Work closely with senior developers and support teams.
  • Progressively take ownership of assigned technical tasks.

Skills and Eligibility Criteria

Educational Background: Must have completed B.E/B.Tech.

Experience: Must be a fresher.

Mandatory Technical Skills:

  • COBOL: Basic programming and debugging concepts
  • JCL: Creating, modifying and executing basic jobs
  • DB2: Basic SQL queries and database-related activities
  • VSAM: Understanding of VSAM data sets and mainframe data handling
  • CICS: Foundational knowledge of transaction processing concepts
  • Mainframe Utilities: Basic knowledge of commonly used utilities
  • z/OS: Understanding of core z/OS concepts
