Job Description
Cisco is hiring for the position of Software Engineer – Network/Embedded/Application Development (Summer Internship) in Bangalore. The internship is focused on software engineering across networking, embedded systems, application development, and low-level system programming. Candidates interested in building software that operates close to hardware or powers large-scale network and cloud systems can consider this opportunity. The role requires strong foundations in computer science, computer architecture, programming, operating systems, and digital design. For the embedded and systems-development track, candidates should have proficiency in C/C++ and Python and familiarity with memory management, processes, threads, hardware interfaces, and resource-constrained systems. Skills and Eligibility Criteria

Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
- Strong understanding of computer architecture (CPU and instruction execution, Memory hierarchy, Caches, Registers, Processes, Interrupts, Input/output, Basic digital-design principles).
- Understanding of OS internals (Processes, Threads, Memory management, Scheduling, User space and kernel space, System calls, Concurrency).
- Ability to solve complex technical problems.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Self-motivated approach and willingness to take ownership.
Competencies:
- Exposure to microcontrollers, RTOS, device drivers, or hardware-software interfacing (for Embedded and System Development).
- Understanding of foundational networking concepts such as TCP/IP, packets, sockets, protocols, and client-server communication.
- Experience with AI tools like Cursor, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex for accelerated coding, automated testing, and improved code quality.
- Understanding of human accountability and process transparency in AI-assisted development (reviewing generated code, running automated tests, checking security implications, validating assumptions).
