Job Description
This entry-level Software Engineer (Evergreen) opportunity is for candidates beginning their software engineering careers. The position is part of Cisco's Product and Engineering organization and is designed for candidates with a Bachelor's degree and 0 years of previous experience. The role focuses on software development, coding, testing, debugging, secure coding, user experience and Agile engineering practices. Candidates will work with experienced engineers and contribute to small projects and software features while developing an understanding of the complete software development lifecycle.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Communication: Communicate project status, progress and technical issues to the team; share knowledge and experience.
- Project Contribution: Contribute to small projects and software features.
- Coding & Testing: Write and modify code with appropriate guidance; participate in coding and testing activities; refine and rewrite test code when required.
- SDLC Understanding: Develop an understanding of the software development lifecycle.
- Agile Practices: Learn and apply Agile engineering practices.
- Requirements Analysis: Analyze user requirements and understand their impact on technical design.
- Testing & Quality: Assist with tests focused on scaling, reliability and development velocity.
- Secure Coding: Apply secure coding principles and follow software security guidelines.
- Troubleshooting: Support senior engineers with troubleshooting and debugging.
- Codebase Knowledge: Develop knowledge of a significant area of the codebase while understanding other related components.
- Documentation: Contribute to technical design and user documentation.

Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline.
Experience: 0 years of previous professional experience.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of technical theories, principles and concepts
- Exposure to current technologies through coursework or internship experience
- Basic knowledge of at least one programming language
- Understanding of coding, testing, debugging and the basic software development lifecycle
- Basic knowledge of requirements analysis, design, coding, unit testing and acceptance testing
- Understanding of secure coding, privacy and secure software development practices
