Job Description
This role sits within Target’s Product Engineering division, responsible for designing, constructing, and scaling cloud-native systems and software platforms that support global retail operations.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Technical Delivery: Write, organize, and maintain robust, clean, and high-performance backend code based on detailed technical architecture designs.
- Code Quality & Reviews: Actively review peer code to uphold software quality, security standards, and functional accuracy across the engineering squad.
- System Construction & Testing: Participate in structured construction, test script automation, debugging, and implementation activities for scalable backend components.
- Operational Maintenance: Resolve frequently encountered technical issues, monitor systems capacity, and adhere strictly to change and incident management standards.
- Disaster Recovery & Metrics: Assist in disaster recovery planning, functional integration testing, regression testing, and exploring metadata across data metrics.
- Technology Evaluation: Provide input on new technology evaluations, contributing to product lifecycle management and proof-of-concept initiatives.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: 4-year Bachelor's degree (B.E / B.Tech / B.Sc in CS/IT) or equivalent practical industry experience.
Experience: 1+ years of active software development experience building production-grade services.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with package solutions, object-oriented concepts, automated unit/integration testing, and code review standards
- Proficiency in at least one core programming language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Python, or Go)
- Strong understanding of language-specific data structures, memory management, and how to select optimal algorithmic structures for engineering problems
- Working understanding of distributed computing concepts, microservices architecture, and API design
Competencies:
- Active interest in current and emerging technologies with an ability to apply new techniques to current product scope
