Job Description
As a Network Implementation Engineer, you will be the initial point of our efforts to execute deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks worldwide. You will work with Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, Design and Infrastructure Engineers, and Field Engineers within Google, as well as construction and telecommunications vendors. Your primary objective will be to build the world’s most reliable, cost-effective, and scalable network to support all of our current and future customers and users globally. The Network Team is responsible for operating Google's global network reliably and at scale, owning the full life cycle of all space, power, and network assets in all of Google’s data centers and metro points of presence globally.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Monitoring & Triage: Monitor network dashboards and alerting systems (e.g., IRM) for anomalies and performance issues and perform initial triage of alerts, classifying severity and potential impact based on playbooks.
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve network incidents of low to moderate complexity affecting wired and wireless networks, routing, switching, and firewalls.
- Issue Management: Manage user-reported network issues submitted via the ticketing system (e.g., GUTS) and provide timely updates to users and stakeholders on ticket status.
- Change Implementation: Implement routine and low-impact network changes following approved Change Requests (CRs) and MOPs, including port configurations, VLAN assignments, or software updates on single devices.
- Documentation: Maintain and update network diagrams and operational documentation, and contribute to knowledge base articles and playbooks based on issue resolutions.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience: 1 year of experience with network routing protocols, design, and troubleshooting. Experience working with network equipment providers, enhanced interior gateway routing protocol (EIGRP), IP routing, LAN switching, and data center operations.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Experience with fundamental networking technologies (TCP/IP).
- Experience with a wide range of protocols, including BGP, OSPF, ISIS, DHCP, IPSec, GRE, Wi-Fi standards, DNS, and Radius.
- Direct, hands-on experience working within a network operations environment.
