Job Description
Nextpower is hiring for the position of Intern – Systems Engineering in Hyderabad, Telangana. This opportunity is open to candidates with a Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Structural, Mechanical, or Applied Physics Engineering. The internship provides an opportunity to work on complex R&D programs related to solar tracker solutions. Interns will work on mechanical and structural analysis, load calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), simulation models, system-level testing, design optimization, failure analysis, and engineering automation. The role requires programming knowledge in MATLAB/Simulink and Python for automating calculations and developing engineering tools.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Solar Tracker Systems: Contribute to the engineering work behind utility-scale solar tracker systems, focusing on the mechanical and structural domain to improve sunlight utilization.
- System-Level Design: Assist with system-level design for different tracker solutions, analyzing mechanical and structural behavior and consolidating design decisions across engineering disciplines.
- Load Calculations: Understand how mechanical structures respond to different forces and loading conditions, including static, dynamic, and wind loads, stress, strain, deflection, and boundary conditions.
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Apply experience with ANSYS FEA to model the behavior of structures under various loads and conditions, identifying stress concentrations, deformation, failure risks, and potential design improvements.
- Engineering Simulation: Assist in developing simulation models for engineering problems, including structural, fatigue, structural dynamics, kinematics, vibration, and thermal analysis.
- Design Optimization: Develop MATLAB- and Python-based tools for design optimization, automating repetitive calculation work and evaluating multiple design alternatives more efficiently.
- MATLAB and Simulink: Utilize MATLAB for numerical analysis, engineering calculations, simulation support, and optimization; use Simulink to model and simulate dynamic systems.
- Python for Engineering Automation: Use Python for data processing, numerical calculations, automation, simulation workflows, and engineering analysis, writing clean scripts and working with numerical or engineering data.
- CAD and CAE Tools: Apply experience with CAD/CAE software, specifically SolidWorks for mechanical design and ANSYS for finite element analysis, understanding their relationship to engineering analysis and design changes.
- Failure Mode Analysis: Assist with product failure mode analysis using test results and reverse-engineering activities, investigating how and why a product or component failed.
- System-Level Testing: Assist with system-level testing, including field testing, to determine whether the complete system behaves as expected under realistic operating conditions.
