Job Description
As a Software Development Engineer I, the selected candidate will contribute to building the customer-facing experience for JioHotstar at significant scale. The role involves developing distributed applications and user-facing features for the JioHotstar website and TV applications. Engineers are expected to focus not only on functionality but also on performance, accessibility, reliability, maintainability, and cross-browser compatibility. This position is particularly suited to frontend engineers who have practical experience with JavaScript and understand how modern browsers and frontend applications work.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Feature Ownership: Own and deliver end-to-end features for JioHotstar’s user-facing applications.
- Quality Implementation: Build features with strong performance, accessibility and cross-browser compatibility.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with product stakeholders to develop new website and TV application features.
- Technical Feasibility: Evaluate the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
- Frontend Implementation: Implement frontend experiences based on product and design requirements.
- Reusable Code: Build reusable code and cross-functional libraries.
- Design System Contribution: Contribute to JioHotstar’s internal design system.
- Documentation: Document solutions through technical documentation, DFDs and code comments.
- Code Quality: Write clean, efficient and maintainable code.
- Best Practices: Follow software engineering best practices.
- Code Reviews: Participate in code reviews and incorporate technical feedback.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Experience: 0–2 years of professional experience as a frontend developer.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript.
- Deep understanding of how web browsers work.
- Understanding of design and architecture patterns.
- Knowledge of React, AngularJS or a similar framework.
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git.
- Familiarity with frontend build tools such as Grunt or Gulp.
Competencies:
- Strong technical reasoning and ability to work through complex engineering problems.
- Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and frameworks.
- Open-source contributions are considered an advantage.
