Job Description
Merck Group is hiring for the position of Software Engineer in Bangalore. Candidates with a B.E/B.Tech/B.Sc/BCA qualification and 0–2 years of experience can apply for this opportunity. The role is part of the Data Platform Engineering team and focuses on building and maintaining cloud-native infrastructure that enables the organization to discover, publish, integrate, and govern data products at scale. Candidates should have hands-on knowledge of Python, REST APIs, Amazon Web Services, infrastructure as code, Git, CI/CD, Linux, and shell scripting. Familiarity with Java, Spring, Kubernetes, containerized deployments, and data governance platforms is an additional advantage. The role also places significant emphasis on the practical use of Artificial Intelligence tools in software engineering, including code generation, debugging, documentation, and exploratory analysis.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience: 0–2 years of experience.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Ability to write clean and maintainable Python modules.
- Working knowledge of REST APIs (understanding HTTP methods, status codes, headers, JSON payloads, authentication concepts).
- Working knowledge of core AWS services (Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), AWS Glue, Identity and Access Management (IAM), Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)).
- Exposure to Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Knowledge of Git branching, pull requests, code reviews, and CI/CD concepts.
- Comfort with command-line tools and basic shell scripting.
- Ability to troubleshoot in Linux-based environments.
- Understanding of AI and large language model concepts and their practical use in software engineering.
Competencies:
- Familiarity with Java fundamentals and ability to navigate Java or Spring codebases.
- Understanding of Kubernetes concepts (Containers, Images, Pods, Deployments, Services, Configuration, Scaling).
- Understanding of database concepts and interaction with managed database infrastructure (for Amazon RDS).
- Understanding of object storage concepts (buckets, objects, permissions, data-storage workflows) (for Amazon S3).
- Understanding of infrastructure as code concepts (infrastructure configuration, plan and apply workflows, state management, resource dependencies).
- Understanding of CI/CD concepts (automated builds, automated testing, artifact creation, deployment pipelines, environment management).
- Familiarity with Linux filesystem operations, processes, environment variables, permissions, networking commands, log inspection, basic troubleshooting.
