Job Description
As a Software Engineer at Optum, you will be responsible for the end-to-end maintenance and enhancement of existing healthcare applications. Your primary focus will be Java coding and performing critical database updates using SQL. You will also be expected to generate ad-hoc reports to support data-driven decision-making within the organization. This role follows an Agile/Scrum methodology, requiring active participation in daily stand-up calls to track task progress. In addition to development, you will play a key role in the deployment phase. This includes participating in application code releases to production environments, which occasionally occurs during weekends to minimize service disruption. You will work with modern infrastructure and have the opportunity to leverage AI tools to streamline workflows and improve application performance. Flexibility and a proactive attitude toward changing business environments are essential for success in this role.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Software Development: Perform Java coding and bug fixing for existing enterprise health applications.
- Database Operations: Execute database updates and complex queries using SQL (Sybase ASE/MS SQL).
- Reporting: Generate ad-hoc reports using SQL and Excel to assist business stakeholders.
- Agile Participation: Attend daily Scrum meetings to discuss tasks, blockers, and sprint progress.
- Deployment: Participate in production code deployments (including scheduled weekend releases).
- Compliance: Maintain compliance with company policies, security protocols, and employment terms.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues and optimize performance.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Graduate degree in B.E/B.Tech, MCA, or related technical field.
Experience: Freshers / Experienced.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Java and JavaScript (proven skills)
- SQL (strong proficiency); familiarity with Sybase ASE or MS SQL is preferred
- Working knowledge of UNIX commands and shell scripting
- Knowledge or hands-on experience with AI Productivity Tools
Competencies:
- Familiarity with RESTful API development and consumption
- Nice-to-Have: Experience with Airflow, Git/GitHub, and GitHub Actions for CI/CD
- Flexibility and a proactive attitude toward changing business environments
