Job Description

As a Quality Engineer-Automation at IBM, you will specialize in creating automated testing solutions for IT systems and applications. The role involves understanding testing requirements, designing optimized test scenarios, automating test execution, and integrating testing into broader software delivery processes. A major focus will be improving testing efficiency through automation by identifying repetitive manual processes and developing reliable solutions. You will also work with test data and test environments, as automated testing is only effective when these are correctly configured. The role also involves exposure to modern engineering practices including Agile, DevOps, and containerization.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Automation Design & Implementation: Design and implement automated testing solutions for IT systems and applications. Develop automation that streamlines software testing processes.
  • Test Scenario & Execution: Create optimized test scenarios using appropriate test automation tools and technologies. Develop automation for executing software tests with minimal manual intervention.
  • Maintenance & Improvement: Maintain and improve existing automated testing solutions.
  • Data & Environment Automation: Automate test data management processes to support reliable test execution. Develop automation for test environment setup and management.
  • Integration & Practices: Integrate testing automation into broader delivery automation workflows. Support software delivery processes using modern Agile and DevOps practices. Work with container-based environments and understand their role in automated testing.
  • Collaboration & Efficiency: Improve testing efficiency through optimization and automation. Collaborate with development and delivery teams to integrate quality engineering into the software lifecycle. Minimize manual testing effort through reliable and maintainable automation.

Skills and Eligibility Criteria

Educational Background: Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is preferred.

Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience.

Mandatory Technical Skills:

  • Experience with test automation tools and technologies.
  • Ability to build automated testing solutions for IT systems and applications.
  • Ability to create optimized automated test scenarios.
  • Experience with automated test data management.
  • Experience automating or managing test environments.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies in testing environments.

Competencies:

  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies.
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and continuous delivery concepts.
  • Ability to identify inefficient testing processes and develop practical automation solutions.
