Job Description

As a Quality Engineer-Automation at IBM, you will specialize in creating automated testing solutions for IT systems and applications. The role goes beyond simply executing automated test cases; you will be expected to understand testing requirements, design optimized test scenarios, automate test execution, and help integrate testing into broader software delivery processes. A major focus will be improving the efficiency of testing through automation, which means identifying repetitive manual processes, determining which activities can be automated, and developing reliable solutions that can execute tests consistently. You will also work with test data and test environments, as automated testing is only effective when the required data and environments are available and configured correctly. The role also involves exposure to modern engineering practices including Agile, DevOps, and containerization.

  • Automation Solution Design: Design and implement automated testing solutions for IT systems and applications.
  • Process Streamlining: Develop automation that streamlines software testing processes.
  • Test Scenario Optimization: Create optimized test scenarios using appropriate test automation tools and technologies.
  • Automated Execution: Develop automation for executing software tests with minimal manual intervention.
  • Maintenance & Improvement: Maintain and improve existing automated testing solutions.
  • Test Data & Environment: Automate test data management processes to support reliable test execution. Develop automation for test environment setup and management.
  • Integration: Integrate testing automation into broader delivery automation workflows.
  • Methodology Adherence: Support software delivery processes using modern Agile and DevOps practices.
  • Containerization: Work with container-based environments and understand their role in automated testing.
  • Efficiency Improvement: Improve testing efficiency through optimization and automation.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with development and delivery teams to integrate quality engineering into the software lifecycle.
  • Manual Effort Reduction: Minimize manual testing effort through reliable and maintainable automation.

Skills and Eligibility Criteria

Educational Background: Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is preferred.

Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience.

Mandatory Technical Skills:

  • Experience with test automation tools and technologies.
  • Ability to build automated testing solutions for IT systems and applications.
  • Ability to create optimized automated test scenarios.
  • Experience with automated test data management.
  • Experience automating or managing test environments.
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies.
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and continuous delivery concepts.
