Job Description
As an Associate Software Test Engineer at Rockwell Automation, you will contribute to different stages of the software development lifecycle, including test design, test automation, software verification, and defect management. The role requires engineers to design and maintain tests, develop automated testing solutions, monitor test results, identify software defects, and document testing activities. Automation is a major component of the position. Candidates should have experience with test automation and scripting, with Marathon or Selenium specifically mentioned as preferred tools. The role also involves working with Java, data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, JUnit, GitLab, Jenkins, Maven, and other software development tools.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Test Design: Design and maintain software tests throughout the development lifecycle.
- Automated Test Development: Develop automated tests for new products and software systems.
- Test Execution: Execute automated test suites and monitor their results.
- Defect Management: Identify, investigate, and report software defects.
- Test Documentation: Develop and maintain test documentation required by the software development process.
- Software Verification: Participate in software verification activities.
- Requirements Verification: Participate in requirements development and verification activities.
- Work Estimates: Provide work estimates for assigned testing activities.
- Status Communication: Prepare and communicate project status updates.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with developers, testers, and other engineering teams.
- Global Teamwork: Work effectively with large, globally distributed project teams.
- Quality Contribution: Contribute to software quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Modern Practices: Apply modern engineering practices including CI/CD and automated testing.
- MES Support: Support software solutions associated with manufacturing execution and automation systems.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent field.
Experience: Approximately 1 year of experience in test automation for new products or software systems.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of Java, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design (Programming)
- Experience with test automation and scripting languages (Automation)
- Knowledge of Selenium or Marathon is preferred (Automation Tools)
- Familiarity with test management tools such as qTest (Test Management)
- Knowledge of JUnit (Testing Frameworks)
- Familiarity with GitLab and SVN (Version Control)
- Understanding of Jenkins and modern continuous integration and delivery practices (CI/CD)
- Familiarity with Maven and ANT (Build Tools)
- Exposure to Eclipse and other common software development tools (Development Tools)
- Familiarity with JIRA (Defect Tracking)
- Understanding of design patterns used in enterprise applications (Design Patterns)
- Familiarity with TDD and BDD (Testing Strategies)
- Understanding of CI/CD, containerization, virtualization, and rapid prototyping (Modern Development)
- Experience or familiarity with SAFe methodology (Agile)
