Job Description
This 12-month, full-time paid apprenticeship is designed for recent graduates and individuals looking to launch a career in software development. The program combines hands-on engineering work at Google (80%) with structured technical training (20%).
Roles and Responsibilities
- Learning & Standards: Learning, adhering to, and upholding Google’s internal software engineering and coding standards.
- Project Support: Supporting team projects across implementation, unit testing, debugging, and code integration.
- Cross-functional Exposure: Gaining cross-functional exposure to various aspects of the software development lifecycle, including testing and project management.
- Practical Application: Applying theoretical knowledge gained during external training modules to real-world production environments.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field. Must NOT be currently enrolled in any academic program at the time of program start.
Experience: Less than 1 year of professional experience in software application development.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Hands-on programming experience in at least one modern coding language (e.g., Python, C++, Java, Go, JavaScript)
Competencies:
- Demonstrated passion for technology through personal side-projects, open-source contributions, or self-directed learning
- Eagerness and adaptability to pick up new programming languages and frameworks as required by project teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with Google Workspace or similar productivity and collaboration suites
- Proven ability to navigate ambiguous technical tasks both independently and in a collaborative team setting
- Strong analytical mindset, critical thinking, and structured problem-solving abilities
