Job Description
WEX is hiring for the position of Software Development Engineer 1 in Bangalore. This WEX Recruitment 2026 role is designed for an entry-level engineer with around 1 year of experience who wants to work on complex data systems, cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, software development, and risk engineering platforms. The role combines conventional software engineering with data ingestion, data processing, data quality, SQL, relational databases, ELT, cloud technologies, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, microservices, and big data. The position is part of WEX's Risk Engineering organization, where the team works with large and complex datasets generated by production systems, applications, and platforms.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Problem Understanding: Collaborate with stakeholders to understand customer and business problems.
- Design & Develop: Design, test, code, and instrument new data products, systems, and platforms.
- Software Components: Develop software components for small- and medium-complexity problems.
- Data Pipelines: Build and maintain data pipelines covering the end-to-end data lifecycle.
- Data Operations: Support data ingestion, cleaning, processing, enrichment, optimization, and serving.
- Data Quality Systems: Develop systems for measuring and monitoring data quality.
- Metadata Management: Support metadata management, data catalogs, and Master Data Management initiatives.
- CI/CD: Learn and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions.
- Infrastructure as Code: Implement Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Support provisioning and management of cloud-based data infrastructure.
- Development Practices: Apply software development practices such as TDD and BDD.
- Architecture Patterns: Work with microservices and vertical slice architecture patterns.
- Production Support: Support live data systems and production platforms.
- Monitoring & Incident Response: Participate in proactive monitoring and incident response activities.
- System Investigation: Investigate existing systems to identify bottlenecks and improvement opportunities.
- Big Data Platforms: Develop and maintain reliable, secure, and scalable big data platforms and tools.
- Data Quality Systems: Support data quality measurement and monitoring systems.
- Big Data Integration: Learn and integrate big data technologies with WEX platforms.
- Data Modeling: Apply data modeling techniques to create efficient and usable data structures.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with peers and senior engineers to improve solution quality.
- Continuous Learning: Continuously learn new technologies and engineering practices.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (demonstrable equivalent capability may also be considered).
Experience: 1 year of software engineering experience is listed as a plus.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Programming: Strong implementation skills in Java, C#, Golang, Python, or similar programming languages
- Testing: Understanding of automated testing and engineering quality practices
- Data Processing: Knowledge of data ingestion, cleaning, processing, enrichment, serving, and data quality
- SQL: Understanding of SQL and relational algebra
- Databases: Knowledge of relational databases and data systems
- ELT: Understanding of extract, load, and transform workflows
- Data Warehousing: Basic understanding of data warehousing and dimensional modeling
- Cloud: Interest or experience with cloud technologies and infrastructure
- CI/CD: Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery pipelines
- Infrastructure as Code: Exposure to Terraform is an advantage
- Architecture: Awareness of microservices and vertical slice architectures
- Monitoring: Understanding of measurement, monitoring, and production support
