Job Description

As a Software Development Engineer I at JioStar, you will contribute to building the customer-facing experience for JioHotstar at significant scale. The role involves developing distributed applications and user-facing features for the JioHotstar website and TV applications. Engineers are expected to focus on functionality, performance, accessibility, reliability, maintainability, and cross-browser compatibility, with strong hands-on knowledge of JavaScript, browser technologies, frontend architecture, design patterns, and modern frameworks like React or AngularJS.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver end-to-end features for JioHotstar’s user-facing applications.
  • Build features with strong performance, accessibility and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Collaborate with product stakeholders to develop new website and TV application features.
  • Evaluate the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
  • Implement frontend experiences based on product and design requirements.
  • Build reusable code and cross-functional libraries.
  • Contribute to JioHotstar’s internal design system.
  • Document solutions through technical documentation, DFDs and code comments.
  • Write clean, efficient and maintainable code.
  • Follow software engineering best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews and incorporate technical feedback.

Skills and Eligibility Criteria

Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Experience: 0–2 years of professional experience as a frontend developer.

Mandatory Technical Skills:

  • Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript.
  • Deep understanding of how web browsers work.
  • Understanding of design and architecture patterns.
  • Knowledge of React, AngularJS or a similar framework.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git.
  • Familiarity with frontend build tools such as Grunt or Gulp.

Competencies:

  • Strong technical reasoning and ability to work through complex engineering problems.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and frameworks.
  • Open-source contributions are considered an advantage.
