Job Description
JioStar is hiring for the position of Software Development Engineer I in Bengaluru. Candidates with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and 0–2 years of professional experience can apply. The role is part of JioHotstar’s Viewer Experience (VX) organization and focuses on building high-quality, scalable, and engaging user experiences across the JioHotstar website and TV applications. Candidates should have strong hands-on knowledge of JavaScript, browser technologies, frontend architecture, design patterns, and modern frameworks such as React or AngularJS. Engineers are expected to focus not only on functionality but also on performance, accessibility, reliability, maintainability, and cross-browser compatibility.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Feature Ownership: Own and deliver end-to-end features for JioHotstar’s user-facing applications.
- Quality Development: Build features with strong performance, accessibility and cross-browser compatibility.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with product stakeholders to develop new website and TV application features.
- Design Implementation: Evaluate the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs; Implement frontend experiences based on product and design requirements.
- Code Reusability: Build reusable code and cross-functional libraries; Contribute to JioHotstar’s internal design system.
- Documentation: Document solutions through technical documentation, DFDs and code comments.
- Best Practices: Write clean, efficient and maintainable code; Follow software engineering best practices.
- Code Review: Participate in code reviews and incorporate technical feedback.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Experience: 0–2 years of professional experience as a frontend developer.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript.
- Deep understanding of how web browsers work.
- Understanding of design and architecture patterns.
- Knowledge of React, AngularJS or a similar framework.
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git.
- Familiarity with frontend build tools such as Grunt or Gulp.
Competencies:
- Strong technical reasoning and ability to work through complex engineering problems.
- Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and frameworks.
- Open-source contributions are considered an advantage.
