Alcon, the global leader in eye care, is officially hiring for the Software Engineer Apprentice role at its Bangalore innovation hub. This is a specialized 1-year full-time internship designed to immerse you in full-stack development using modern technologies like Java, Spring Boot, and React. Join a team dedicated to helping people see brilliantly while building your foundation in professional software engineering. We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Apprentice Engineers to join our Lifecycle Management (LCM) Team as part of a 24-month apprenticeship program. This role is intended for recent graduates in Computer Science, Information Science or related disciplines who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in software development, medical device lifecycle management, device testing, and platform sustainment activities. The apprentice will work closely with experienced engineers and gain exposure to the end-to-end lifecycle of regulated medical devices, including software maintenance, platform upgrades, operating system patching, testing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Software Development: Support software development, maintenance, and lifecycle management activities for medical device products.
- Implementation & Validation: Assist in implementing, validating, and verifying software changes and enhancements.
- Testing: Participate in functional, integration testing of medical devices and associated software applications.
- System Upgrades: Support operating system upgrade and patch validation activities.
- Troubleshooting: Assist in root cause investigation, defect analysis, and troubleshooting activities.
- Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, test reports, and engineering records.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to software quality, reliability, and maintainability.
- Automation: Support automation and productivity improvement efforts where applicable.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree (B.E / B.Tech) in Computer Science, Information Science, or related disciplines.
Experience: Strong academic background. Basic understanding of software development fundamentals.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Basic programming knowledge (C/C++/Python/Java/C# is a plus)
