Job Description
Red Hat India, the world's leading provider of enterprise open-source solutions, has officially announced its Red Hat Freshers Internship 2026 Drive. Red Hat is inviting applications for the position of Software Engineer Intern at its global development engineering hubs in Bangalore and Pune. Candidates currently pursuing or recently graduated with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related disciplines are eligible to apply for this 6-month internship program. Interns work alongside senior mentors on real-world production code powering platforms like Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), OpenShift, and enterprise AI tools.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Software Development: Work closely with senior engineering mentors to design, develop, test, and maintain code in Python, Golang, or similar languages.
- Feature Implementation & Debugging: Implement new system features, identify bugs, debug code, and track issues within core Red Hat products like RHEL and OpenShift.
- Collaboration: Collaborate actively with cross-functional departments including Quality Engineering (QE), User Experience Designers, Product Management, and Technical Documentation teams.
- Learning & Mentorship: Participate in learning curriculum, technical sessions, and mentorship workshops organized by Red Hat's Emerging Talent Team.
- Open-Source Contribution: Engage with global engineering cohorts and contribute directly to open-source software initiatives.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Full-time matriculated students in tertiary educational institutions (Engineering / Science streams). Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related technical disciplines.
Experience: Freshers (0 Years Experience) - able to commit to the full 6-month internship program duration.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Basic knowledge of Software Engineering principles and open-source systems
- Programming proficiency or willingness to work with Python, Golang, Java, or JavaScript
- Exposure to GitHub, Agile development frameworks, and Linux environments
Competencies:
- Strong problem-solving capability
- Curiosity and drive to understand underlying software architectures
- Good working knowledge of written and spoken English for global team collaboration
