Job Description

As an Software Engineer Intern at Stripe, you will gain hands-on experience by supporting key projects, contributing to team efforts, and learning from experienced professionals in a dynamic environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Write software that is deployed to production and has a meaningful impact on Stripe customers.
  • Participate in software design and implementation activities.
  • Give and receive technical feedback through code reviews and design discussions.
  • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Understand existing systems and contribute to improvements.
  • Learn unfamiliar technologies, systems, and codebases quickly.
  • Work with an intern manager and experienced engineers throughout the internship.
  • Communicate project progress and technical decisions clearly.
  • Test software and maintain high-quality engineering standards.

Skills and Eligibility Criteria

Educational Background: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

Experience: Students / Internship Experience

Mandatory Technical Skills:

  • computer science concepts
  • programming through coursework, personal projects, or other practical experience
  • previous internships or multi-person projects
  • open-source contributions or other collaborative projects
  • unfamiliar systems through independent research, mentorship, and collaboration with subject matter experts

Competencies:

  • Specialized knowledge in one or more technical areas combined with broader software engineering knowledge
  • Frontend technologies and basic understanding of how backend services process HTTP requests
  • High-quality pull requests with appropriate test coverage
  • Software testing and writing reliable code with minimal defects
  • Ability to navigate and work within unfamiliar codebases involving multiple programming languages
