Job Description
This apprenticeship is for recent graduates and final-year students who want to begin their careers in software engineering. The Apprentice Engineer will work on next-generation Category Planning and Retail Analytics platforms, gaining hands-on exposure to enterprise web applications, data-driven solutions, cloud-native architectures and emerging AI or agentic workflows. The role offers practical experience across frontend, backend, API and database layers while working with experienced engineers.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist in designing, developing and enhancing web applications using Angular, JavaScript, TypeScript and .NET/C#.
- Develop and consume RESTful APIs.
- Write clean, maintainable and scalable code following engineering best practices.
- Apply object-oriented programming and .NET fundamentals.
- Debug issues using root-cause analysis and code tracing techniques.
- Write efficient and optimized SQL queries.
- Analyze issues across application, API and database layers.
- Work with Azure, SQL Server and Snowflake environments.
- Support data pipelines, transformations and analytics workflows.
- Assist with intelligent insights for category planning.
- Write unit and integration tests.
- Participate in debugging, troubleshooting and performance tuning.
- Identify and resolve frontend, backend and database issues.
- Participate in code reviews, sprint planning and retrospectives.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects and QA teams in Agile environments.
Skills and Eligibility Criteria
Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, MCA or Engineering.
Experience: Recent graduates or final-year students are preferred.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Programming Skills: C#, JavaScript, Python
- .NET and Backend Development: Strong foundation in .NET development, Object-oriented programming principles, Backend architecture basics, REST API development and consumption
- Database Skills: Strong SQL fundamentals, Complex SQL queries, Joins and aggregations, Performance-aware query design
- Web Development: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Cloud and Data Skills: Microsoft Azure (AKS, Functions and Storage), SQL Server, Snowflake, Data pipelines and transformations, Analytics workflows
Competencies:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good understanding of APIs, databases and application workflows
- Ability to learn quickly and work effectively as part of a development team
- Angular or another modern frontend framework (Preferred)
- PostgreSQL (Preferred)
- AI and Generative AI Skills: Python-based data processing (Pandas, NumPy), Generative AI concepts, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI APIs, LangChain or similar LLM tools (Preferred)
- Docker and Git (Preferred)
- Basic understanding of retail or e-commerce systems (Preferred)
